Jackson Martínez was a Colombian footballer who became known worldwide after three successful seasons at Porto. Currently, the former forward has completely changed his life and dedicates himself to religious music.
During an interview for the SER Deportivos program, Martinez clarified how he decided to dedicate himself to religious music.
“I have had a passion for music since I was little, never thought I would dedicate myself to it and even less to this genre that I listened to as a child. During the period of injuries, between 2016 and 2017, I have more time and start dedicating more time to this. The initiative was not to record it to publish it, but to have a memory of the situation I had been through, but the producers told me to release the songs and I decided to launch them. I had an audience that encouraged me to release more," he said.
“To believe in something, you have to have certainty of why. There are many who believe that God does not exist, others who do. To believe in it, you have to have a foundation that supports it. Comparing yourself to God, you put yourself on the same level as him, you see your imperfections. That's how I've seen that I have never tried to persuade someone to believe in God," he responded in reference to the fact that it is not common among elite players to dedicate themselves to religious music.

Finally, he advised all the young people who aspire to be professional footballers. “I would tell a young person what is the goal they long to play and achieve great things. From there, they can have many incentives. My main motivation was to support my family, then personal and collective achievements came. If you want this, you have to dedicate yourself seriously and abstain from many things that you are not usually willing to give up," he said.
Jackson Martinez played 40 matches with the Colombian national team and scored 10 goals. He participated in the 2010, 2014, and 2018 World Cup qualifiers. He also played in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he appeared in three matches and scored two goals.
