Despite his controversial departure from Barcelona, Lionel Messi still has the love and admiration of his former teammates, such as Pedri, who did not hesitate to praise the tremendous footballing ability of the Argentine star on the field.
The 18-year-old prodigy stated that if it were up to him, he would award the 2021 Ballon d'Or to the 'Flea', not only for the support that the 'gaucho' provided him to adapt to the first team at Barca, but also for being at the pinnacle of the 'king of sports'.
"I don't have to decide that. I would give it to Leo because of everything he has helped me with in this club and the truth is, I have always said it, he is the best in the world," declared Pedri in a press conference after renewing with Barcelona until 2026.
The Spanish midfielder also expressed his joy at extending his contract with the Blaugrana institution. "My hope and dream is to be at Barza. We are going through a difficult time, but I am convinced that we will rise and win titles."
On the other hand, Pedri referred to the Golden Boy 2021, an award that is given on December 15th to the best player in European football under the age of 21, and in which he appears on the list of the 20 finalists.
"It is an award that you receive for the work of an entire season. It is an honor for Barza to also have Gavi. It is a demonstration that Barza is doing well with young players," said the Tegueste-born midfielder.
