El Salvador falls 2-0 against Mexico
El Salvador fell 2-0 against Mexico last Wednesday at the Cuscatlán Stadium in the Concacaf Qatar 2022 Eliminations. This left discontent among all fans and also with Nayib Bukele, the president of the Central American nation, who issued a peculiar and enigmatic message through his social media that caused uproar among the Salvadoran people.
"I believe it is time to intervene. They punish us for a couple of years and then we come back playing for real," the president posted on his official Twitter account. Immediately, users of the social media platform expressed their opinions, indicating that he should not create more problems and not relate politics to sports.
However, the head of state was not the only one who expressed himself and caused controversy, as his brother Yamil Bukele also expressed himself through the same platform. "There can be a lot of talent, desire and even courage at times. Even luck can be present. But if sports psychology and muscle training are not applied to our players, followed by strengthening the league, we will not see great changes," he specified.
It is important to clarify that President Bukele caused controversy yesterday during the qualifying match, as a huge flag with advertising for him appeared in the stands. "El Salvador is with Bukele," it read, but the banner was requested to be removed to prevent any extradeportive incidents.
Finally, it is important to remember that 'La Selecta' is second to last in the final octagonal towards the next World Cup, with only 5 points in six matches played. In the next double matchday in November, they will have to host Jamaica and then visit Panama.
