Cristiano Ronaldo admitted today that players prefer French coach Zinedine Zidane than Rafael Benitez, after Real Madrid achieved their second victory in the 'Zizou' era, beating Sporting de Gijón 5-1.
The forward Cristiano Ronaldo, three-time Ballon d'Or winner, scored two goals in the rout against Sporting, and stated after the match: "To be honest, don't ask me why, but players feel more empathy with Zinedine Zidane."
"Coach Zinedine Zidane has given a boost to the team. Honestly, you have more empathy with certain coaches than with others," said Cristiano Ronaldo. "I did my job naturally with Rafael Benitez, I did it seriously, thinking about what was best for the club, regardless of who was leading the team. I've never had a bad opinion of 'Rafa', he always did his best for Madrid," he added.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane won the Champions League with Real Madrid.
Cristiano Ronaldo, however, denied that the players played badly to get rid of the coach. "Players don't put themselves in that scenario, at least not me. Regardless of empathy, you have to be serious in your work."
"The training sessions with 'Zizou' and Carlo Ancelotti are also similar. He is a calm person, serious at work, and outside he is fun, he has empathy with the players and I am very happy, excited. It is an interesting moment for me and for the players," he concluded.
