The Ecuadorian forward Jordy Caicedo is reportedly being targeted by CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria. Agent Hernán Banato claims to have finalized the signing, but on the other hand, there is Vitoria, a Brazilian club with a contract involved and a potential dispute that could be brought before FIFA.
In an interview with Área Deportiva, Banato said the deal with CSKA is "closed". "Jordy is very happy, it's a one-and-a-half-year contract with a buyout option," he pointed out.
Based on Banato's statement, the player would arrive on a free transfer, but Vitoria's version is contradictory, although there are pending issues that the player claims.
Dilson Pereira, legal director of the Brazilian Serie B club, expressed surprise at Banato's announcement, stating that there is "nothing" between his club and CSKA.
Pereira acknowledged on Salvador radio (Brazil) that the club has unpaid wages with the player, but "we must be very careful when negotiating regarding the issue of the delays that Caicedo mentions. They are delays throughout the Vitoria group, which do not exceed sixty days, which would authorize him to enter into an extrajudicial process, according to FIFA rules," he said.
The Vitoria representative commented that Caicedo "says that the club made wage reductions and he was the only player who disagreed with that". At the beginning of the pandemic, all athletes signed salary deductions and deferred payment of image rights. Let's remember that Vitoria was suspended for four months and we did not use the athlete's image," according to Pereira, in statements collected on Friday by the Bahianoticias portal.
Caicedo arrived at Vitoria with a contract until 2023, and although Banato stated that there was interest from Ecuadorian clubs, the proposal from Bulgaria is the best option for the player, a situation that also contradicts the interests of the club from Salvador de Bahía.
"We understand that the best thing for the athlete is to stay in South America, here I believe he would be better positioned to try to recover his level of play," said Pereira, who seeks to "reach an agreement" with Caicedo, because the situation can be very detrimental for both the athlete and Vitoria itself.
