Matías Almeyda rumored to be the next coach of Chile's national team
First Hernán Crespo was mentioned, and now Matías Almeyda. In fact, the newspaper Olé practically confirms Almeyda's arrival to Chile as the replacement for Colombian Reinaldo Rueda as the national team's coach.
According to the Argentine media, the coach would "terminate his contract with his current team, the San José Earthquakes of the United States, to come to Chile and sign the contract."
"If there are no complications and his arrival is confirmed, the former midfielder will join the long list of Argentine coaches (Ricardo Gareca, Gustavo Alfaro, and Eduardo Berizzo) leading a national team in South America," adds Olé.
Matías Almeyda would make his debut as the coach of Chile in the match against Paraguay, to be played on March 25th in Santiago for the fifth round of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers. After that, the team will visit Ecuador.
