The Real Madrid is recognized as the best club of the 21st century at the Globe Soccer Awards
The Real Madrid defeated Barcelona and Al Ahly at the Globe Soccer Awards held in Dubai, where it was recognized as the best club of the 21st century, having won five editions of the Champions League.
Emilio Butragueño, director of institutional relations of Real Madrid, collected the award and made a special nod to the millions of Madrid fans around the world.
"It is an honor to receive this award. It has been a very difficult year for everyone, so receiving an award like this is the result of the team's work and that's why we want to share this recognition with everyone who is part of the Real Madrid family: the president, the players, the coach, the technical staff, and of course, the fans," he said in his speech after receiving the award.
"It would be impossible to understand Real Madrid without its fans. They help us grow as a club," he added before closing with his best wishes for 2021, where he asked for the return of fans to the stadiums. "I would like to wish you all the best in this difficult year and we hope to be able to return to normal life and enjoy football, which is our passion, with our fans."
In the same gala, goalkeeper Iker Casillas, newly appointed director general of the club's foundation, received recognition for his successful career. "Thank you for this trophy. I hope that next year can be much better and there can be normality in football," he wished.
"After five years, I have returned home, the club where I have grown up since I was a child. I am convinced that it is a great step for me. We have grown in the 21st century, but there are other clubs that are making it difficult. Real Madrid has achieved all the merits to be the best club of the century," he valued about his return to the white house after his retirement from football. EFE
