World Cup Russia 2018: Security Measures Ensure No Terrorist Attacks
The organization of the 2018 World Cup in Russia has confidence in the security mechanisms it is implementing and guarantees that there will be no terrorist attacks during the tournament.
"Our authorities have developed a concept and a strategy that we believe are so good that there will be no attacks during the 2018 World Cup," said Alexei Sorokin, CEO of Russia 2018, in an interview published today in the German newspaper "Die Welt".
"Despite the current situation, we must not forget that there has never been a terrorist attack in a World Cup," said the 43-year-old head of the organizing committee. "And we are confident that Russia will not be the exception," he added.
For Sorokin, the attacks in Paris, including the one that took place outside the Stade de France in November, will not change the Russian security protocol. "It is not necessary. We have always been aware of a terrorist threat. Now we don't have to change anything," Sorokin said.
