A late goal by Argentine Manuel Lanzini rewarded West Ham in London (3-3) and frustrated Jose Mourinho's Tottenham, who wasted a three-goal lead on Gareth Bale's debut day, returning to the ranks of the Spurs on loan from Real Madrid.

David Moyes' team spoiled the party. The match looked like a goal fest and ended with a disappointing draw for Tottenham, moving them away from the Premier League leadership held by Carlo Ancelotti's Everton.

The recital offered by the Spurs in the first half turned into a nightmare in the final stretch of the match.

Tottenham's superiority was overwhelming in the first half, capitalized by the connection between Harry Kane and South Korean Son Heung-Min.

After fifteen minutes, Mourinho's team, who had just thrashed Manchester United (1-6) in the previous matchday and Maccabi Haifa in the Europa League (7-2), seemed to have the match decided.

A minute into the game, a long pass from Kane enabled Son, who made space for himself and executed a shot inside the box that beat Polish Lukasz Fabianski.

Seven minutes later, the roles were reversed. Son gave the ball to Kane, who looked for space in the penalty area and made a low shot that reached the net.

In the 16th minute, the home team scored their third goal. A run by Sergio Reguilón finished with a headed goal by Harry Kane.

The pace slowed down afterwards. With the match seemingly decided, Gareth Bale entered the scene. The Welshman, called up for the first time but starting as a substitute, replaced Dutchman Steven Bergwijn in the 72nd minute.

The situation the match took prevented a festive moment for the Spurs and their fans, who saw the victory slip away in the final stretch.

Everything started to change with ten minutes left. A free kick from Aaron Cresswell was headed in by Fabian Balbuena. In the 88th minute, a cross from Czech Vladimir Coufal was inadvertently turned into his own net by Colombian Davinson Sánchez while attempting to clear the ball.

And in added time, after Bale had a great opportunity with a trademark play, Lanzini's stunning goal came. The Argentine collected a ball outside the box and his rocket shot found the top corner of the goal defended by Frenchman Hugo Lloris.

West Ham got the reward for their belief. For the first time, Jose Mourinho wasted a three-goal lead and the opportunity to be second in the Premier League, behind Everton.
