Kazuyoshi Miura, at 53 years old, becomes the oldest player to start a match in the Japanese championship

The forward Kazuyoshi Miura became, at 53 years, 6 months, and 28 days old, the oldest player to start a match in the Japanese championship, which his team, Yokohama FC, played against Kawasaki Frontale on Wednesday.

The previous record was held since 2012 by Masashi Nakayama, who played at 45 years old.

Miura, who hadn't started a match since 2007, played more than one half, being substituted in the 56th minute of a match that his team ended up losing 3-2.

The veteran forward, who has played for Yokohama FC since 2005, begins his 35th season as a professional footballer and intends to extend his career until he is 60 years old.

Miura adds another record to those he already holds in professional Japanese football, such as the oldest goal scorer achieved in 2017 at 50 years old.

When he was 15 years old, Miura went to Brazil, making his debut with Santos in 1986.

With the Japanese national team, with which he played his first match in 1990, Miura scored 55 goals in 89 international matches, but he was not selected for the 1998 World Cup, the first one played by the Blue Samurais.
