Budapest -

In Puskás Arena, UEFA announced on Tuesday that it will authorize the return of spectators for the UEFA Super Cup with a limit of 30% of the stadium capacity, while keeping the doors closed for other international matches.

The match on September 24 between Bayern Munich, the champions of the Champions League, and Sevilla, the champions of the Europa League, will be the first international match to be played with spectators since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the European continent.

"Although it is important to show that football activities can continue even during this difficult period, without fans, the game loses a part of its soul. We hope that the UEFA Super Cup in Budapest serves as a pilot test and marks the beginning of the return of fans to stadiums," said UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.

The statement specifies that the number of spectators will not exceed 30% of the capacity of Puskas stadium, which can accommodate up to 65,000 spectators.

Hungary was one of the first European countries to authorize the return of fans to stadiums for their championship matches, since mid-June.

In addition, the UEFA Executive Committee confirmed that all other international matches will be played behind closed doors "until further notice." (D)
