Since their last offensive against Pumas, America has finished with their affairs in the Liga MX. Time to fully focus on the Club World Cup.
And at the very least, they have two guaranteed matches.
The Eagles emigrated to Japan after being eliminated from the Mexican tournament. They had to travel anyway, but they could have done it with the pending Final for the title; however, the coveted fourth goal against Universidad never came. So America has a good chance to continue competing in the last days of the year.
Because on December 13th, the day when the definitive game of the Apertura 2015 would be played (if America had made it to the final), Ignacio Ambriz's team will make their debut in the 'Mundialito' against the Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande in the quarterfinals.
The feathered team did not leave the Liga MX happy, especially because the second leg of the Clásico Capitalino semifinal series was anything but the straightforward affair expected after the categorical 3-0 victory in the first leg at the Azteca Stadium.
The Eagles were one goal short and amid their anger and thirst for justice, they filed a petition to the Disciplinary Commission to suspend Javier Cortés for the Final, after he injured Javier Güemez (also for the World Cup) with a hard tackle during the first half and did not receive any card. In the end, the authority decided that the tackle was not intentional and closed the case.
So, there was no goal on or off the field that could have disrupted Pumas in the Final and they only have to wait to know the outcome of this match (if they are interested), a few hours after their debut in the global event that brings together champions from each confederation.
By the time Universidad defines the title against Tigres, the blue cream club will already know the date of their next match, which will be for fifth place or for the semifinals.
In the early morning for the American continent, America will play against the Chinese club in Osaka (02:00 hours Eastern Time); if they come out victorious, they will face Barcelona in the top four clash on December 17th in Yokohama. But if they lose their first challenge, they will participate in the fifth-place match on the 16th.
If they achieve one of the greatest feats in their history and defeat Barcelona, the CONCACAF champion will play the Final on December 20th, or on the same day for third place.
The Liga MX subtly sent the Eagles to focus on their affairs, which are not insignificant in the coming days. How far will they fly in the East?
