Setien, on refereeing mistakes:

FC Barcelona coach Quique Setién assessed on Monday the refereeing controversy in Real Madrid's victory over Real Sociedad (1-2) and admitted that refereeing errors are uncontrollable and "inherent" situations in football.

FC Barcelona coach Quique Setién assessed on Monday the refereeing controversy in Real Madrid's victory over Real Sociedad (1-2) and admitted that refereeing errors are uncontrollable and "inherent" situations in football.

"There are things that are beyond your abilities. We will try to do things well on the playing field and that's it. Sometimes you're happier and sometimes you're less happy. It can be considered unfair, sometimes it benefits you, but what doesn't change is that there will always be controversy," Setién commented in the press conference prior to Tuesday's match (22:00 hours) with Athletic Bilbao.

The Barça coach assured that, despite losing the league lead this weekend, the team is playing good football and continues with the same goal as last week: to reach the end of the competition with a chance to win.

"We are convinced that we can win the championship, we will continue to do everything possible, improving any necessary aspects and maintaining what we are doing well, which is a lot," he said.

Setién also took the opportunity to silence the most critical sectors of the fans and reiterated that the coaching staff is pleased "with many things that are being done well," such as the fact that they haven't conceded a single goal in three matches.

"In the field of the third-placed team, we played a great match. I don't agree that we have football problems because we're improving and doing well. It's true that I would like to have more effectiveness, but these are circumstances of football," he concluded.

In a self-critical aspect, Setién acknowledged that the team needs more goal-scoring ability in the final meters of the field to materialize their dominance in matches and "overwhelm" opponents.

The coach emphasized that in a team like Barça, "nothing matters if you don't score," and therefore, many aspects of the game won't be valued if they don't achieve victories.

Regarding the minutes given to players from the youth team, Setién was clear: "I didn't say -when I arrived at Barça- that the academy players were going to play or not. The first-team players are maintaining a high level, and if I saw that a youth player performed better, I would give them more minutes."

In the same vein, Setién explained that he is not "worried at all" that the average age of the squad is considered high, as the important thing is that the players do their job well on the field.

"There may be young lads who think very well, but normally, the older they are, the better they think and decide. It's not a matter of running more, we need to fine-tune certain situations that depend on thinking better, not running more," he concluded.
