Cerezo: "We are a special team, it could be the year to win the Champions League"
Enrique Cerezo, president of Atletico Madrid, described his team as "special" and based on that quality, he said that "it wouldn't be strange for them to win the Champions League this year" without an audience.
Atletico faces this final stretch of the season after the competition hiatus due to the coronavirus, in sixth position in the Spanish League and qualified for the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
"We are in a difficult situation in the league because we have to be among the top four, and we are doing well in Europe, just a few games away from reaching another final and trying to win it," Cerezo said.
"We are a very special team and don't be surprised if we can win a 'Champions' without an audience. Everything can be expected from us, always for the better, even winning a Champions League without an audience," Cerezo asserted, emphasizing that playing without people in the stands will hinder them.
Gabi's Return to Atletico Madrid
"We lose a lot without our fans, who support the players very well and form a perfect bond with the team. Their absence will influence," he highlighted in Movistar #Vamos.
Cerezo also talked about Gabriel Fernández Arenas, 'Gabi', currently playing for Al-Sadd Sports Club in Qatar, and the president of Atletico expressed confidence that when his contract in the Arab country ends, he will definitely return to the Madrid team.
Cerezo admits that there may not be signings
Finally, Cerezo admitted the "possibility" that there will be no signings next season. "It is possible that there won't be any signings, but first we have to finish the season. What I do believe is that signings, in general, are going to be very difficult," he concluded.
