The midfielder Thiago Alcántara renewed his contract with Bayern Munich, German newspapers Bild and Sport Bild reported on Tuesday.
The duration of this renewal was not specified. The contract of the 29-year-old Spanish player, son of the former Brazilian world champion Mazinho, was set to expire in June 2021.
Thiago Alcántara, who joined Munich from FC Barcelona in 2013 for 25 million euros, has won six Bundesliga titles with Bayern, as well as three German Cups. With the Bavarian giant, he has played 227 matches and scored 31 goals in all competitions.
Since the beginning of the year, coach Hansi Flick and forward Thomas Müller have also renewed their contracts until 2023. Negotiations continue with goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer, as well as with Austrian international defender David Alaba.
The sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic recently stated that he was still looking for "a top European talent and an international star" for the upcoming season.
German international Leroy Sané from Manchester City is reportedly high on Bayern's wishlist.
