After the suspension of football in Germany due to the new coronavirus pandemic, the president of Hannover 96, Martin Kind, expressed support for a salary cap for Bundesliga players. In the Doppelpass program, the executive also stated that finishing the season would be most beneficial for the clubs.
"I am in favor," Kind said when asked about the salary cap. "We could accumulate enough capital over the years if we received a certain amount from television revenue. It would be done proportionally for each club, reducing the profits of each one so that a part of that money is invested wisely," added the executive.
Moreover, regarding the remaining matches of the season and his club, Kind pointed out that it is of utmost importance to play the remaining games. "It's a matter of the economy in general. How can we guarantee liquidity in the coming months? Currently, we only have enough to finish the season. If there are no more matches, we would have to make significant changes to our budgets. No club will be able to rescue its financial system," said the president of Hannover 96, affirming that television rights revenue is of utmost importance. "Potential insolvencies would be horrifying," he concluded.
The Bundesliga has been suspended until April 2nd due to the spread of the new coronavirus. In Germany, there are more than 18,000 infected and 55 deaths from COVID-19. Even Chancellor Angela Merkel has gone into quarantine after contact with a positive case.
