Colombian Aguilar leaves Santos to sign with Athletico Paranaense
The signing of Colombian defender Felipe Aguilar (27, photo), who played for Santos, became the fourth most expensive in the history of Athletico Paranaense in the Brazilian First Division, with which he signed until the end of 2023.
The Curitiba team, which is competing in the Copa Libertadores this year, paid 10 million reais (just under 2 million dollars) for 50% of the player's sports rights, whose signing was announced through the team's social media. Santos will keep the other half.
"I learned about the club's interest and everyone spoke wonders about it. I already knew Athletico for its history and for what it has won in recent years," said Aguilar on the team's website.
Athletico Paranaense won the Copa Sudamericana in 2018
Athletico Paranaense won the Copa do Brasil last year and the Copa Sudamericana in 2018. Aguilar, 27, was a starter for Santos under Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli, who requested him as a reinforcement after standing out with Atlético Nacional in his country.
Athletico Paranaense coach Dorival Júnior requested the signing of Aguilar after the departure of Léo Pereira to Flamengo, to replace Spaniard Pablo Marí, and the possible transfer of Bambu to European football.
