The president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, stated that football competitions in Spain must be won on the field during a press conference. These statements leave no chance for Barcelona, the current LaLiga leader, to win a new championship without finishing the rest of the season.
"We have been working remotely with UEFA. Competitions have to be completed before June 30, but that date is not an insurmountable wall. The ideal is to have justice and everything to be fair. The competition has to be won on the field and there must be no injustices. Everyone has voted in favor of these proposals. All territorial presidents agree to support the thesis of the Spanish Royal Football Federation," said Rubiales.
LaLiga was suspended following the rapid spread of the new coronavirus pandemic in Spain. The last matchday that was played was the 27th, leaving Barza as the leader with 58 points, while Real Madrid, after losing 2-1 to Real Betis, stayed with 56 points.
The Spanish League suspended its activities for two weeks following the measures established by the Iberian government. Likewise, the quarantine of the Real Madrid players, after the first case was confirmed in one of its basketball players, reinforced the stoppage of the Spanish tournament.
