The Champions League and the Europa League, the most important football tournaments in Europe, have been suspended due to the complications caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus, according to European media.
UEFA, the highest governing body of football in Europe, made the decision due to the situation experienced by the countries in that continent and will make the official announcement shortly, according to the sports newspaper AS.
Meanwhile, the Euro 2020, a tournament in which national teams compete and which was scheduled to take place between June and July, would be postponed to next year, but that is still under analysis.
Several countries in the continent had already been playing their local tournaments behind closed doors as a preventive measure, but many of them have now completely suspended the championships, including Spain and Italy, the most affected country in the West by the new coronavirus. (I)
