Lionel Messi has two tournaments to win in his career: the Copa América and the World Cup with the Argentinian National Team. Despite having tried several times, the 'Pulga' has not been able to win a championship with the national team, but Conmebol believes he deserves to win a title in the South American tournament.
Alejandro Domínguez, the head of Conmebol, stated that it would be of great benefit for both Argentina and Lionel Messi. He also referred to the comments made by the Barcelona forward towards them during the last Copa América, where he accused them of being involved in corruption.
"I believe that Lionel Messi deserves to win a Copa América, he has won everything and this title is still pending for him. It would be very beneficial for him and his country. All I can say about it is that when football wins, Conmebol wins too. His criticism was harsh for us, considering he is number one. However, after some time, he apologized," he told Marca.
At 32 years old, Lionel Messi has participated in five editions of the Copa América and has at least two more to go. Nevertheless, the Argentinian forward is preparing for the 2020 edition, which will take place in Argentina and Colombia.
