Hertha Berlin is living a golden age: the club that invests the most in signings
Hertha Berlin is the international club that has invested the most in the winter transfer market, with a total expenditure of 76 million euros on four reinforcements, the same amount as Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United combined.
The team, led by German football legend Jürgen Klinsmann, is experiencing a golden age under the billionaire investor Lars Windhorst, who acquired 49.9% of the club for 225 million euros last summer. Since his arrival, the last five reinforcements have been the most expensive in Hertha's long history, founded in 1892.
During the last month of January, all records for the most expensive signings of all time were broken with the purchases of Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek and French midfielder Lucas Tousart. In fact, the previous record dated back to last summer, when Hertha acquired right winger Dodi Lukebakio from Watford for 20 million euros.
The penultimate to join was Piatek, transferred from AC Milan for 22 million euros. Tousart, 22 years old, bought from Lyon for 25 million euros just two days before the forward, is the all-time record signing for Hertha, although he will remain on loan at the Ligue 1 club until the end of June.

Matheus Cunha, the third and final winter reinforcement, comes from RB Leipzig and Hertha have paid 18 million euros for the Brazilian forward. He is the fourth record signing in the history of the capital club.
On the other hand, Argentine midfielder Santiago Ascacíbar, signed on January 1st, arrived at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin after being transferred from VfB Stuttgart, of the German second division, for 11 million euros, making him the fifth most expensive signing of all time.
The goal of Hertha Berlin for this year is to stay in the Bundesliga, and next year to finish in a Europa League position.
