Barcelona has finalized its latest moves in the transfer market before the closing of the transfer window. In addition to Portuguese player Trincao, the Catalan club has officially announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Matheus Fernandes, after reaching an agreement with Palmeiras for his transfer.
The player will continue with the Brazilian team until mid-season and will join Barcelona starting on July 1st. According to reports, the operation was completed for 7 million euros plus an additional 3 million euros in variables. The player will sign a contract for the next five seasons, until the end of the 2024-25 season, with a release clause of 300 million euros.
At 21 years old, Matheus Fernandes stands out in Brazil for his defensive abilities and his ability to start plays from the back, something essential for Barcelona's playing style. He mainly plays as a defensive midfielder.
He played in the youth academy of Botafogo before making his debut with the first team in 2016. In total, during his two years with the 'Fogao' first team, he played 76 matches, scored two goals, and provided four assists. In 2018, he won the Campeonato Carioca.
The following year, he signed with Palmeiras, where he has played 12 matches and scored one goal. He has also participated in two matches with the Brazilian U17 national team and two matches with the U20 team.
