Real Madrid and Valencia have secured their place in the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey, just like FC Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao had done previously. Therefore, 4 of the most prominent clubs in our league will be in the draw this Friday, January 24. The tournament has been revamped by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), through its president Luis Rubiales, with the aim of promoting equality and excitement in matches between teams from different categories.

The Madrid team has managed to knock out Unionistas de Salamanca, a match that took place at Pistas del Helmántico. Gareth Bale, who returned to the starting lineup under Zinedine Zidane, put his team ahead shortly after the 15th minute of play (18'). After half-time, Álvaro Romero Morillo equalized the match, unleashing the euphoria among the local fans, who dreamed of eliminating one of the tournament's top contenders (57'). Nevertheless, an unfortunate own goal by Juan Góngora, who put the ball into his own net (62'), tipped the balance in favor of Real Madrid. As the match was coming to an end, Brahim Díaz secured the reigning champions of the Spanish Super Cup a place in the Round of 16 (92').

Meanwhile, Valencia has shown enough conviction to overcome Logroñés at the Estadio Las Gaunas, one of the most emblematic and legendary venues in national football. A solitary goal by Maxi Gómez in the early stages of the match (15') allowed Albert Celades' men to bounce back from the events of last weekend at Son Moix, where they suffered a heavy defeat against Real Mallorca. In the meantime, rumors are circulating about a possible departure of Rodrigo Moreno, as Barcelona has expressed its desire to sign him.
