Aquiles Álvarez, sports vice president of Barcelona SC, mentioned recently that the club was going to receive "an important percentage" for the transfer of striker Leonardo Campana, recently signed by Wolverhampton of the English Premier League.
Indeed, the canaries will receive a sum of money for the training rights of the 19-year-old footballer, a rule established by FIFA.
To calculate the amount that the canaries will receive for Campana's transfer, the following details must be taken into account:
- It is calculated according to the current categorization of the new club and the years of training in the previous club.
- Since Wolves is an English club -and of the Premier League- it is classified as Category I, so the training cost is 90,000 euros per year (99,698.85 dollars), which will be multiplied by the years the player was in the youth teams of a certain club (in this case, Barcelona).
- Therefore, Barcelona will receive 360,000 euros (398,795.40 dollars) for the 4 years that Campana belonged to the youth teams.
This training rights value is paid until the footballer is 23 years old. Campana is currently 19 years old. This means that if, within a maximum of four years, Campana is sold to another club, Barcelona will receive a percentage of the negotiation for the training rights again. (D)
