Kylian Mbappé and his dream of the treble (Champions League, Eurocup, 2020 Tokyo Olympics) with PSG and the French national team in 2020, is it realistic?: "He doesn't joke when he talks about it, he truly believes in it," reacted his coach at Paris club, Thomas Tuchel, on Tuesday.
"They are three major objectives. With him, it's like that, he doesn't joke when he talks about it. He truly believes in it," Tuchel said, laughing.
"It's good, because he has the confidence and he must have it to achieve such objectives. I hope he can achieve the first one for us, and that he will achieve the other two with France," he added.
When asked "What's your dream for 2020?" this Monday during the official launch of his charity association, Mbappé responded with a smile: "It would be a treble Champions League, Eurocup, and Olympics. Not bad!"
"For now, it seems unattainable, but I will try to do my best to achieve my dream. It would be a pride to bring the first European title (in the Champions League) to PSG and continue to make our country win," he added.
At the end of December, Mbappé clearly presented his candidacy for the Olympics in an interview with France Football magazine, ensuring that he wanted to decide in agreement with PSG.
"I will soon talk to Leo (Leonardo)," the sports director of PSG, he added, although the Brazilian leader was rather reluctant about it.
For Leonardo, a possible call-up for Mbappé for Tokyo (July 24 - August 9) must not be detrimental to his health, as the forward must also play in Eurocup-2020 with the Bleus (June 12 - July 12) and PSG is expected to resume their season in Ligue 1 at the beginning of August.
If the PSG star (21 years old) were to be called up by the French Olympic coach, Sylvain Ripoll, his vacation would have to come once the team has started their season preparation.
Mbappé had already hinted that he dreamed of playing in the Olympic tournament by celebrating the qualification of the French national team, at the end of last June, with a tweet 'Tokyo 2020' accompanied by a blinking eyes emoticon and a flag of his country. (D)
