Brazilian goalkeeper convicted of killing girlfriend signs for a new club.

Brazilian goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes, former captain of Flamengo and sentenced to over twenty years in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, will sign a contract with a regional-level club after receiving authorization from the justice system.

Brazilian goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes, former captain of Flamengo and sentenced to over twenty years in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, will sign a contract with a regional-level club after receiving authorization from the justice system.

A court in the town of Varginha complied with a ruling from the prosecutor's office of the state of Minas Gerais (southeast) and showed support for the 35-year-old footballer to join the Operario de Cuiabá club, the capital of the state of Mato Grosso (west), where he will have to move.

The goalkeeper, who is currently in semi-open regime, signed with Poços de Caldas FC, a humble football club in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, last year, but the contract was terminated months later.

The team then considered that the legal measures imposed on Bruno made it difficult for him to attend training sessions and restricted his progress.

The goalkeeper was arrested in 2010 as he aspired to join the Brazilian national team, and was sentenced to twenty years and nine months in prison in 2013 for the murder of model Eliza Samudio, with whom he had a son that he had not recognized.

Samudio, 25, who demanded child support from the footballer, disappeared in 2010 and was considered dead, although her body was never found, in a case that shocked Brazil.

Trained at Atlético Mineiro, where he made his professional debut, Bruno also played for Corinthians, although he achieved success and fame at Flamengo, with whom he won the Brazilian League in 2009 and three Carioca Championships in almost every game as captain.
