The Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde has been sanctioned with a one-match ban after his expulsion on Sunday in the final of the Spanish Supercup, according to the Real Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The player from Real Madrid will miss the match against Sevilla.
The Single Judge of Competition of the RFEF has decided to suspend Valverde for 1 match, who saw a direct red card on Sunday in the Spanish Supercup final that Real Madrid won 4-1 in the penalty shootout against Atletico Madrid, after the match ended 0-0.
Valverde was sent off in the 115th minute when he brought down Álvaro Morata on the edge of the area, who was running at speed and was about to be left alone against the goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The foul led to the game staying level and a penalty shootout, which was won by Real Madrid.
In the match report, referee José María Sánchez Martínez wrote that Valverde was sent off for "bringing down an opponent thus preventing a clear goalscoring opportunity." The Uruguayan will serve his suspension in LaLiga this weekend, meaning he will not be able to play on Saturday, January 18th, in the match against Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid.
