The 3-0 victory of Real Madrid as a visitor against Getafe left a controversial scene, that of Spanish defender Marc Cucurella in an apparent racist act against Real Madrid's Éder Militao, whom he called "mico".
At minute 51 of the match, Cucurella and Militao had a confrontation after a play. The Brazilian player complained to the referee, to which Cucurella, as seen on cameras, tried to silence him, even resorting to a racist expression.
"Shut your mouth, shut your mouth. Shut up, you damn monkey" is what Cucurella seems to say, according to the Spanish press. However, this action was not recorded in the subsequent referee report.
After the match, the player clarified that his words were not racist and apologized if he hurt anyone with his expressions.
"I would like to clarify that at no time did I insult or belittle Militao. My words were 'Shut up, you damn monkey'. I apologize if anyone felt offended by it. These are the only statements I have made and will make regarding this matter," he said on Twitter.
