The Brazilian national team was crowned champion for the fourth time in the U-17 World Cup on Sunday, defeating Mexico 2-1 in the final of the 2019 edition, with a goal in stoppage time from Lázaro.

The young Flamengo player, who gave Brazil victory in the semi-finals against France coming off the bench, repeated his talismanic role and scored the winning goal in the 90+3 minute, shortly after stepping onto the field.

Just like in the semi-finals against France, when Brazil came back from a 2-0 deficit in the final minutes, the 'Canarinha' had to work hard in the final on Sunday to turn the score around after Mexico opened the scoring in the 66th minute with a header from Bryan González.

With more faith than good play, Brazil went in search of the equalizer and found it in the 84th minute, when forward Kaio Jorge converted a clear penalty inside the box on Gabriel Verón.

When it seemed like the match would be decided in a penalty shootout, Yan Couto crossed a ball from the right and Lázaro first-timed it into the far post to give Brazil the victory.

With this victory, Brazil ends a 16-year drought without world titles in the U-17 category, which they had previously won in 1997, 1999, and 2003.
