Portugal, the reigning champion, qualified for the Euro 2020 soccer tournament on Sunday after defeating Luxembourg 2-0 thanks to a goal by Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored his 99th goal for the Seleçao just minutes before the final whistle.
Portugal, forced to win to qualify, achieved their first objective with 'CR7', who now has a total of 99 goals for Portugal in 164 matches, bringing him closer to the world record held by Iranian Ali Daei (109).
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who will turn 35 in February, will have to wait to surpass the symbolic barrier of 100 international goals. (D)
