The host Brazil reaches the semifinals of the U-17 World Cup

The host Brazil qualified for the U-17 World Cup semifinals on Monday by defeating Italy 2-0 in Goiania.

The 'canarinha' did not feel the absence of their star player, forward Talles Magno, who was injured in the last match, and took the lead with an early goal in the 6th minute by Patryck.

The left-back ran into the box and deceived the goalkeeper Marco Molla with a well-placed shot, as he expected a cross.

Italy had several chances to equalize, mainly from set-pieces, but failed to surpass goalkeeper Matheus Donelli.

Before halftime, a Brazilian counterattack ended with a great assist from Pedro Lucas to Peglow, who sent a low cross-shot from the right that hit the post and ended up inside the Italian net.

In the second half, Italy's physical effort took a toll, and they failed to intimidate Brazil with the same clarity. Brazil had several counterattacks to score the third goal but was unsuccessful.

On Thursday, Brazil will face France in Gama, in a clash between the two best teams of the tournament, both with five wins in five matches.

This is Brazil's second consecutive semifinal, as they lost in the penultimate stage against England, the eventual champion, in the 2017 World Cup in India.

Brazil is seeking its fourth U-17 World Cup title, after winning in 1997, 1999, and 2003. France, their next opponent, won the 2011 edition in Trinidad and Tobago.
