Liverpool stages comeback to defeat Villa in the Premier League
In a match where Liverpool repeatedly collided with Tom Heaton, Villans' best player on Saturday, goals from Andy Robertson in the 87th minute and Sadio Mane in the 94th minute secured a comeback victory that tasted like glory.
Villa, Liverpool's opponent in the quarter-finals of the League Cup, took the lead in the 21st minute through Trezeguet, and managed to maintain their advantage for over 60 minutes.
With all their firepower on the field, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane, it had to be a full-back who found the equalizer when Liverpool seemed destined for their first league defeat.
Scottish player Robertson scored three minutes before the end, rescuing a draw that seemed sufficient given the circumstances.
But Liverpool did not give up, and in the 94th minute, Mane, who had rested during the cup, scored the winning goal, leaving Villa's players exhausted on the field.
A tremendously important victory for the Red team, who for several minutes saw City close the gap to three points and cut their lead for the second time in three matches.
However, Mane's goal maintains a six-point lead over Guardiola's team and keeps Liverpool at the top of the table with 31 points.
