It lives up to its name. 'La Fábrica', as the youth divisions of Real Madrid are known and called, has emerged as the academy that exports the most players to the five major European football leagues (Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1) with a total of 39 academy graduates, according to the latest study by the CIES Football Observatory.
The prestigious sports study center has released its latest list, in which it has considered the following criteria to be part of it: the footballer must have played for at least three years for the team in question, between the ages of 15 and 21.
Thus, players like José Callejón, Dani Parejo, Álvaro Morata, Pablo Sarabia, Sergio Reguilón, and Achraf Hakimi, have allowed Madrid to lead this ranking, followed by Barcelona and Lyon with 34 and 30 players, respectively.
Contradictory present
However, this recognition of 'La Fábrica' does not correspond to the current panorama of Real Madrid, which is giving little use to its own academy in the first team. According to data from CIES itself, in the current league season, players trained in the 'Casa Blanca' have only played 25.9% of the available minutes.
In fact, Florentino Pérez's new signing policy does not involve spending money on established 'galacticos' (Eden Hazard has been the only one this season), but on signing young players with great potential like Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, or Takefusa Tubo, none of whom have a past in the youth teams of 'blanos'. In fact, the Japanese player was trained at Barcelona.
Some present in practice
Zidane, as reported by the club, had academy players Diego Altube, Adrián de la Fuente, and Mario Gila, and led a new session with physical work, tactics, and small-sided games.
Real Madrid will return to action on Wednesday against Leganés at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, an important match for their fight for the top positions in the standings. On Saturday, they will play at home again against Betis.
