The Maracaná Stadium in Rio de Janeiro and the Mario Kempes Stadium in the Argentine city of Córdoba have been chosen as the venues for the 2020 Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana finals, respectively, the Conmebol announced on Thursday.
The Council of the South American football governing body, meeting in Asunción, selected these venues from a list of 12 cities that offered to host the finals of next year's Conmebol club tournaments.
"The criteria evaluated when selecting the venues were based on the vision, concept, and legacy of the proposal, as well as the technical characteristics of the stadium and training grounds," Conmebol said in a statement.
The selection also took into account security, mobility, accommodation requirements, as well as various social, political, environmental, and commercial aspects. The entity added that the Copa Libertadores final will be held on November 21 and the Copa Sudamericana final on November 7 of next year.
This year's Copa Libertadores final will be played for the first time in a single match at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile on November 23. Likewise, the Copa Sudamericana final will take place at the La Olla Monumental stadium in Asunción on November 9. AFP
