Ansu Fati makes his debut for the Spain U-21 team
Ansu Fati played his first minutes with the Spanish U-21 team on Tuesday in a 2-0 victory over Montenegro in a qualifying match for the 2021 Eurocup. It was a promising debut that could have been crowned with a goal in stoppage time, if not for a save by the opposing goalkeeper.
Ansu Fati entered the match in the 80th minute, replacing Marc Cucurella, when Spain had already sealed the victory in Pogdorica with goals from Aitor Buñuel (34') and Cucurella himself (62').
Ansu Fati, of Guinean origin and recently naturalized Spanish, became the second youngest player to debut with the U-21 team at 16 years and 11 months, only surpassed by Bojan Krkic, who debuted at 16 years and 9 months.
The young Barcelona player joined the U-21 team last Friday, replacing his teammate Carles Pérez who left the camp due to a muscular injury.
The young Barcelona player has impressed so far this season, and last Friday, Spanish national team coach Robert Moreno did not rule out the possibility of including him in the next Eurocup.
"Nothing is ruled out, especially talking about next summer," Moreno said in a press conference.
A player who "suddenly starts with his team and, especially in his case with a team like Barcelona, starts scoring goals and enjoying it, why would we give up a player of such a high level with us?" added Moreno, who, however, once again called for caution with the young player.
