César Luis Menotti

Technical champion of the world with the Argentina national team in 1978, considered this Tuesday that comparisons between his compatriot Lionel Messi and the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo are not good for football and that it is more appropriate to simply "enjoy them".

"They are comparisons that I don't like, they are not good for football. Let's enjoy them and that's it, because they are different, unique", Menotti stated in an interview published this Tuesday by the Italian newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport".

"Cristiano is enormous in the penalty area, Messi is more complete in the other areas of the field. It is clear that for me Leo will always win because he is Argentine, but Cristiano is incredible", he continued.

Menotti

who now works as the director of national teams of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), emphasized his conviction that football must be harmony and spectacular play.

"I am interested in a team always being a protagonist of the spectacle in order to achieve the goal. I like those who are committed to art. Football is an art", he said.

The former Argentine coach, who directed Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Boca Juniors, among other teams, expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Juventus Turin has also decided to bet on an offensive playing philosophy.

In this sense, according to Menotti, the game promoted by the coach Maurizio Sarri at Juventus will favor the Argentines Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala.

"The best thing that could happen to Higuain and Dybala is to have this coach. It is a blessing for them. Sarri will definitively recover Higuain, he is a top player, a great goalscorer. They say he has no personality, but it is the opposite. He always accepts challenges even if they criticize him", he considered.

"Dybala has excellent talent, but he is still a boy. At these levels, every match is a battle against yourself. You can never relax", he continued. EFE
