Luis Suarez is one of the best '9' in world football. The Uruguayan crack has earned his place in Barcelona with goals and good football, forming one of the deadliest duos in Europe alongside Lionel Messi. When the Argentine star has been absent, Suarez's presence has been vital in achieving important victories. But, like every player, age takes its toll and Barcelona is already considering alternatives to replace him.
According to a recent report by 'Sport', Barcelona is considering up to four options to take over from Luis Suarez, and all of them are top players. Alongside the already approved Lautaro Martinez, three other great alternatives have emerged: Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane, and Rashford.
Mbappé, the top choice
Achieving the same records as a player like Luis Suarez is not easy. Since the 2015-16 season, the Uruguayan has maintained a goalscoring rate comparable to Messi or CR7. On that occasion, the 'Pistolero' scored 59 goals, followed by 36, 31, and 25 in the following seasons.
In that sense, a player who fits Barcelona's requirements in terms of characteristics, age, and current form is the French forward Kylian Mbappé. Although he is not a traditional '9', he is a complete footballer who adapts to Barcelona's style of play. However, signing him won't be easy because Real Madrid is interested in him and sees him as a project for the next summer transfer window.
Who would Barcelona sign?
The other two options that have emerged are Harry Kane and Rashford. The former is a traditional '9', one of the best in the world at the moment and with great potential at 26 years old. 'Hurrikane' covers the entire attacking line and is the first to pressure the opponent's defense, just like Suarez. However, his weakness is that he is less involved in the team's build-up compared to the Uruguayan.
Lastly, there's Rashford. He has different characteristics as he is a winger who is on his way to maturity. He needs a big project to establish himself, which makes him the most accessible option among the three.
The cards are on the table, but as 'Sport' mentions, everything will depend on Luis Suarez's performance. The Uruguayan has started the season in brilliant form, but age is catching up. Whether he maintains his level or not will determine whether Barcelona signs his replacement before or after 2021, when his contract expires.
