Bruno's new opportunity in football
Bruno, who aspired to be part of the Brazilian national team when he was arrested in 2010, has been hired by Poços de Caldas, a team from the fourth division of Minas Gerais. This was made possible by a judicial decision that granted him a semi-open regime, allowing him to work during the day but obliging him to spend every night in prison.
The 34-year-old player is serving his sentence in a prison in the neighboring city of Varguinhas. When presented as the new player of Poços de Caldas, he refused to answer questions about the incident that led him to prison and his current legal situation.
"I want people to see the same goalkeeper who played for Flamengo and I make it a challenge to see how far I can go with daily work," said the goalkeeper.
In 2010, Bruno was arrested and convicted in 2013 to 20 years and nine months in prison for the murder of model Eliza Samúdio, with whom he had a son that the goalkeeper had not recognized.
Samudio, 25 years old at the time, demanded child support from the football player. She disappeared in 2010 and was considered dead, although her body was never found, in a case that shocked Brazil.
The player was temporarily released by a precautionary decision of the Supreme Court of Brazil and in 2017, he returned to play for Boa Esporte, a team from the city of Varginha, also in Minas Gerais.
However, the measure was annulled the same year, and Bruno was sent back to prison.
Bruno, who started his career in Atlético Mineiro, also played for Corinthians, but he achieved success and fame with Flamengo, with whom he won the Brazilian League in 2009 and three Carioca championships.
