Colón made history last Wednesday by defeating Atletico Mineiro on penalty kicks in the semifinals of the Copa Sudamericana. The team led by 'Pulga' Rodriguez surprised at the Governador Magalhaes Pinto stadium with goalkeeper Leo Burian as the standout, although another player has gone viral on YouTube.
Ignacio Chicco, Colón's backup goalkeeper, had a memorable moment. While Burlán was saving penalties, he held up a paper to indicate where the Brazilian players should shoot.
The viral YouTube video shows Chicco moving his arms to indicate which side the opponent's shot would go. Of course, he was one of the first to celebrate Colón's qualification to the grand final, where they will face Independiente del Valle.
Franco Di Santo in the 39th minute, and Yimmy Chará in the 51st, put Mineiro in the lead. However, they fell asleep in the final stretch and ended up paying the price.
A penalty converted by 'Pulguita' Luis Miguel Rodríguez in the 82nd minute took the tie to a penalty shootout, where Uruguayan goalkeeper Leonardo Burián saved the shots from Chará and Rever to qualify Colón to the final.
Thrilling final in the Sudamericana
The Argentine team will decide the title on November 9th in a single match in Asunción against the Ecuadorians from the city of Sangolquí, who eliminated another Brazilian team, Corinthians, on Thursday.
The champion will secure a spot in the group stage of the 2020 Copa Libertadores and will play against the winner of the 2019 Libertadores in the Sudamericana Recopa.
