The 'Neymar Novel' had a sad ending for Barcelona. PSG was not satisfied with any of the economic offers from the blue and claret team and closed the doors to the player who could not fulfill the dream of returning to what he considers "his home".
From Camp Nou, they feel calm because they made all the attempts to have Neymar in their ranks. This was explained by Oscar Grau, CEO of Barcelona, who assured in a press conference where he presented the club's financial balance.
"We did everything possible to close the deal, but always in a viable way because we were delighted that he came. If the parameters we wanted were met, it was sustainable. When the game was broken, as PSG did not facilitate the exit, it was not viable", he explained.
"We offered alternatives and possibilities to PSG that they systematically rejected. They didn't want to do the deal. We can say the same with De Ligt. Taxation in Italy is more advantageous. We want the best team in a sustainable way."
It was speculated that Barcelona offered players like Dembélé, Rakitic or Coutinho to convince the Parisian club. Nothing worked. Enrique Tombas, treasurer of the club, added: "we made two proposals, one with the exit of players and another without it. Both were sustainable."
"When we talk about containing salary mass, we have to realize that we have that mass because we have the best players in the world. Any signing that is made will take into account sustainability. It's not just that we like the player, but from the economic perspective, it has to be adapted. With Neymar, and with the conditions we offered to PSG, it was sustainable".
There was much speculation about the possibility that Neymar will try again this winter; however, the Barza feels calm for the moment and sees the option as complicated. It will depend on the sports planning that is done," they explained.
Neymar was never close to Barcelona
In mid-August, PSG's sports director, Leonardo, said that there was nothing advanced with Barcelona for Neymar's transfer. Now, with the Brazilian's permanence in Parc des Princes assured, the former player detailed the negotiations that were held with Barza until the first days of September.
"All this matter was very clear. Everyone knew about the situation. Neymar has made mistakes, like everyone else, and his situation was complicated, but also because it's him and there's a lot of talk about him," pointed out the high executive of the French champion in an interview with journalist Christophe Dugarry on RMC.
