Near the last quarter of the year, and like every year, discussions about the best player of the year prize start circulating among fans, the press, and the players themselves. Cristiano Ronaldo, as in the last decade, is among the favorites to win the Ballon d'Or, an award that, confessed by the Portuguese, he is not concerned about.
"As I always say, I don't live football thinking about individual awards, this is a consequence of what we win collectively. But it's good, I won't lie," said Cristiano after scoring four goals in Portugal's victory against Lithuania in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.
The Juventus forward also commented on whether his retirement from football is near, to which he responded with irony.
"It's impossible (laughs)... I feel good. It's an honor to represent the national team. Very happy not only for the goals scored, but also for seeing the level of the team in recent years," he added.
A new 'Poker'
Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals in Portugal's 5-1 victory over Lithuania in the Euro qualifiers.
The Portuguese star opened the scoring in the seventh minute and completed his 'poker' with three more goals in the second half, after the hosts managed to equalize temporarily in the first half. William Carvalho sealed the final score in stoppage time.
It was Portugal's second consecutive victory after starting their campaign in Group B with two draws at home. The victory left the reigning European champions in second place in the group with eight points, five behind leaders Ukraine. Third-placed Serbia, who defeated Luxembourg 3-1, have seven points.
