Giorgio Chiellini, who tore his ACL, Croatian Mario Mandzukic, and German Emre Can, by technical decision, were left out of the list announced on Tuesday by Juventus for the group stage of the Champions League.
Juventus, in Group D alongside Atlético Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, and Lokomotiv Moscow, presented a list of 22 players in which Argentines Gonzalo Higuaín and Paulo Dybala, and French Blaise Matuidi were included, whose presence was in doubt due to the large squad of the Turin team.
The coach of the Turin team, Maurizio Sarri, left out a Chiellini who tore his ACL last week and will not be able to compete until 2020.
He also sacrificed Mandzukic, one of the leaders of Juventus during the tenure of coach Massimiliano Allegri, and Emre Can, preferring Welshman Aaron Ramsey, who joined for free during this transfer window after his contract with Arsenal expired.
Juventus will visit Atlético Madrid on September 18 and will then face Bayer Leverkusen at home, before a double match with Lokomotiv Moscow. Their group stage will end with a cross with Atlético on November 26 in Turin, and a visit to Bayer.
