The coach of Spain, Robert Moreno, said that he would gladly step down from his position if Luis Enrique wanted to return to the position, after having resigned to spend time with his daughter, who passed away last week from cancer.

Robert Moreno, Spain's national coach, acknowledged that the recent tragedy suffered by Luis Enrique is still fresh, but if he wants to return to coaching and considers the option of returning to the position, Moreno would be "happy to step aside".

"Right now, there is a very recent situation that we have to think about and I don't think we should be thinking about that right now. But there have been three press conferences since I became the coach that I would have preferred not to do, the one in Malta, my presentation, and today's," Moreno said during his press conference at the Ciudad del Futbol.

Moreno assumed the role of national coach after the resignation of Luis Enrique, whom he had been assisting. Luis Enrique stepped down in June after being absent since March due to his daughter's serious illness.

"The situation that I enjoyed and wanted was the one we had before. I consider Luis a friend and friends come before any project you have in life because if not, you lose something that we should all have, which is being human. If at some point he decides that he wants to return to coaching and wants to count on us, I will be the first and happy to step aside and work with him," he added.

The sad outcome with the death of Luis Enrique's daughter is affecting the day-to-day life of the Spanish national team before the matches against Romania and Faroe Islands.

"It has been a very complicated week," Robert admitted. "In the end, it has affected all of us and we are trying to approach the matches as best as possible. We take this week of work with the responsibility of providing a small joy in a very bad moment," he added.

The current coach, who took over from Luis Enrique, wanted to thank the media for their handling of the difficult situation that the Asturian coach and the national team have gone through in recent months.

"On behalf of the staff, I want to thank you again for the way you have handled the situation that Luis has experienced. You have been very respectful and it is worthy of gratitude," he concluded.
