The Ecuadorian football team drops six places in the FIFA world ranking

The Ecuadorian national football team has dropped six places in the FIFA world ranking and is now ranked 66th, according to the July update released this Thursday.

La Tri is the second worst team in the CONMEBOL, with Bolivia being seven places below (73).

The Ecuadorian team lost 16 points, according to FIFA's calculations, after its poor performance in the recent Copa America in Brazil.

  • 'Everything remains the same' with Hernan Dario Gomez

In the oldest soccer tournament in the world at the national team level, the team coached by Colombian Hernan Dario Gomez only added one point, thanks to a draw (1-1 with Japan) and two defeats (4-0 against Uruguay and 2-1 against Chile).

Meanwhile, after winning their ninth Copa America this month, Brazil displaced France to second place in the FIFA ranking.

The five-time world champions climbed 45 points in the rankings and are now only 20 points behind the leader Belgium, while the current World Cup champions France remained in third place with the same number of points.

Meanwhile, Mexico, the recent winner of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, climbed six positions to 12th. Chile, fourth in the Copa America, rose two places to 14th.

Venezuela rose seven places to reach its best position at number 26, while Copa America semifinalist Peru ranked 19th after moving up only two places, the same as Chile, which finished in 14th place.
