The Peruvian National Team experienced two tough moments in less than 24 hours. Not only did they suffer a painful defeat at the hands of Brazil at the Arena Corinthians, but they also received the terrible news that Jefferson Farfán, a key player on the team, would not be able to continue playing in the 2019 Copa América.
The injury to his left knee will require surgery, so he arrived in Barcelona on Wednesday to undergo the operation. All under the watchful eye of the doctors from Lokomotiv Moscow, the club that will have to receive financial compensation.
According to Martín Chu Li, ESPN journalist, the Russian club will be compensated for losing the player for the rest of the year, according to the initial reports. This is a FIFA rule, as they have a clear Club Protection Program.
The article explains that: "The program will provide compensation to clubs (based on the player's annual fixed salary) in the event that national team players suffer physical injuries as a result of an accident, resulting in more than 28 consecutive days of total temporary incapacity."
This money is calculated based on the fixed salary that the club directly pays to the player as an employee. The maximum that can be demanded is 7,500 thousand euros per athlete per accident.
Before leaving for Spain, Farfán sent strength to his teammates who will face Chile in the semifinals of the tournament.
"I send all my strength to my teammates. The national team is super focused right now and I know they will bring joy to everyone," declared the player.
