Microsoft had set the bar high for the Xbox One X in 2016 when announcing that it would be the most powerful console ever created. Now, it turns out that the company has decided to backtrack on virtual reality.
"We have no plans to bring virtual reality or mixed reality to Xbox. Our vision has always been that the best platform for immersive VR and mixed reality experiences is the PC", said Michael Nichols, marketing director of Microsoft, to GamesIndustry.biz.
"Our main focus is on what the user will experience on their television", he added.
What Nichols mentioned contradicts the intentions that Microsoft had indicated at E3 2016, when it was announced that the new Xbox would have support for virtual reality, even talking about a couple of games like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout.
So, the only ways to experience virtual reality will continue to be on PC, on smartphones, or on PlayStation 4 with its PlayStation VR headset.
