Argentina and Brazil, historical football rivals
Argentina and Brazil have always been historical rivals in football. The two South American powerhouses have faced each other dozens of times, and their fans, understandably, always want to win.
That's why the case of the Real Copagre neighborhood in the city of Teresina is so striking. This city is the most populous in the state of Piauí, in the northeast of the country, a rural area where Real Copagre is precisely one of its humblest districts.
According to various local and Argentine media reports, the neighbors there have painted the streets with the colors of Argentina, gather to support Argentina, and prefer these colors over their own.
As reported by the newspaper Olé, this started as a kind of joke after the 2014 World Cup final, in which Brazil suffered a resounding 7-1 defeat at home against Germany. But beyond that, in recent years, corruption cases in the country have prompted their neighbors to revive what started as a minor incident.
It will certainly be interesting to see images of this neighborhood if Brazil and Argentina cross paths during the World Cup.
