The goalkeeper Loris Karius suffered a concussion during the Champions League final
The German goalkeeper of Liverpool, Loris Karius, who made two decisive mistakes in the Champions League final that his team lost 1-3 against Real Madrid, suffered a concussion during the match that could have influenced his performance, confirmed the US hospital where he underwent tests.
"After carefully reviewing the match video and his detailed medical history - which includes a report with his symptoms after the contact - and after medical and metric examinations were performed, we have concluded that Mr. Karius suffered a concussion during the May 26 match," Massachusetts General Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital reported in a statement.
Karius underwent examinations on May 31, after a collision with Spanish defender Sergio Ramos, by doctors Ross Zafonte, an expert in athlete concussions, especially in the NFL, and Lenore Herget, who stated that "during the evaluation, Mr. Karius showed signs of spatial visual dysfunction that would have occurred immediately after the event (...) It is possible that these deficits would have affected his performance," he added.
The German goalkeeper was subjected to numerous criticisms after making mistakes in two of Real Madrid's three goals: the first one came two minutes after the collision with Ramos, when he gave the ball to French forward Karim Benzema (51), while in the third one he failed to clear the ball with his fists from a long and apparently harmless shot by Welshman Gareth Bale in the 83rd minute.
