Pablo Mancilla opened the scoreline at the 23rd minute of the first half and the Argentine Michael Hoyos sealed the match around the 70th minute, in the second half.
With this defeat, Barcelona remains in the second position with 29 points and if LDU of Quito wins this Sunday as a visitor to El Nacional, they will shoot up with a 5-point lead at the top of the championship.
With the victory, Guayaquil City escapes the bottom of the table and rises to the penultimate position with 11 points.
