Niantic is preparing something huge with their Pokémon GO application. They want to digitize the entire world in 3D for augmented reality technology.

Niantic wants to create a completely digital map of the world. It will be accessible through augmented reality technology and users will be responsible for capturing all the photographs with Pokémon GO.

To achieve this, Niantic will use the captures of all the players of the application. This way, a 3D map of the world will be gradually formed, with the aim of creating a database large enough to develop more advanced apps.

This effort will directly compete with other companies that are already working on the subject, such as Apple and Google. The advantage of Niantic is that Pokémon GO is a game that has expanded worldwide.

"We want players to build the game board they want to play on," explained CEO John Hanke. The advantage behind this technology is that if you have an augmented reality map as a base, you can add any context to it.

It would serve in the future for designers, architects, video game developers, and many more professionals.
